Midagri seeks to accelerate the cultivation of transgenic products
This last Monday, the Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Ángel Manero, specified that the sector he leads is seeking to start the cultivation of certain transgenic products
“We are limiting the products to animal feed or, in the case of cotton, textiles and clothing. On the other hand, the cultivation of these products will not be allowed in areas of high biodiversity, that is the proposal,” he expressed.
Along these lines, he explained that transgenic products cannot be grown in Peru until 2035, which is why he showed his willingness to advance the deadline. “You cannot grow products transgenic in Peru until 2035, starting in 2035 it is possible. We want to advance the deadline to start once and for all and not continue giving up space to imports. Our technical position as a ministry is to allow it once and for all to be able to face the advance of these imports.”
