The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Elizabeth Galdo, reported that in the first quarter, agricultural exports totaled US$2,481 million, 10.8% more than in the same period of 2023.
Blueberry shipments doubled and, together with cocoa and derivatives, rose 82.7%. Meanwhile, lemon and derivatives did so at 85.6%.
Galdo recalled that Ica is the main agro-exporting region thanks to grapes, blueberries and asparagus for US$666 million; followed by La Libertad, with US$386 million generated by shipments of blueberries, avocado and asparagus, and Piura, with US$273 million for grapes, mango and lemon.
“Peru has positioned itself as one of the main world suppliers of excellent quality fruit,” noted the official, considering that Our country is the first global exporter of grapes, blueberries, asparagus – fresh and canned – and cinchona. In avocado, ginger and walnuts, we occupy second place.
It is worth adding that in 2023 agricultural exports reached US$10,484 million, 4.4% more than 2022. Agricultural exports covered 16% of total shipments.
