This 2024, the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat) has announced that it will return an amount equivalent to 3 UIT, which adds up a total of S/15,450, to those taxpayers who meet certain requirements. This refund, called ex officio refund, will begin on June 12.

He tax system is aimed at simplification and transparency, which directly benefits taxpayers through improvements in the declaration and return process. With a focus on digitalization and automation, Sunat seeks to guarantee more efficient management with fewer errors.

What does the Sunat tax refund consist of?

The official return of the Sunat is an automated process through which taxpayers can receive a refund of their excessive or improper payments without having to submit a refund request. This benefit applies directly to those who have submitted an Annual Income Tax Affidavit and have made deductible expenses with electronic receipts linked to their RUC or DNI.

Guide to request a refund of my taxes from Sunat

To access the tax refund, taxpayers must ensure they file their annual tax return correctly. It is essential to declare all income received and correctly record deductible expenses. Once the declaration has been processed, Sunat evaluates it and, if appropriate, makes the refund directly to the taxpayer’s bank account.

Next, we show you what the process is like to request a tax refund. If you have RUC. you must do the following:

  • Access SOL with your SOL password
  • Go to the Procedures and Consultations option
  • Next go to CCI Único, which you can enter by clicking on this link.

If you do not have a RUC, you will have to go to the ‘obtain the SOL Code online’ option and complete the form with the information requested, in addition to including your CCI, which must meet these requirements:

  • Belong to an account in National currency
  • The account must be registered in Peru
  • It must not be linked to a CTS account
  • The applicant must be the beneficiary of the refund.

Who accesses the ex officio refund from Sunat?

The beneficiaries of this automatic refund include self-employed workers and employees who receive fourth and fifth category income. It is important that these taxpayers have their electronic expense receipts well recorded and linked to their identity document to automatically qualify.

How long does Sunat take to make the refund once the return has been submitted?

In accordance with Art. 6 Supreme Decree No. 051-2008-EF, Sunat has a period of 45 business days to supervise and verify refund requests.
