The route that connects the southeastern Chinese city of Shenzhen with the Mexican capital was inaugurated by the airline China Southern Airlines. This leg has become the longest direct international journey in the history of Chinese civil aviation.

The official Xinhua agency reported that A distance of more than 14,000 kilometers is covered, exceeding the 12,878 kilometers covered by the connection between Canton (southeast China) and New York (United States) and is among the longest routes in the world.

Likewise, it is projected that it will be operated twice a week by an Airbus 350 aircraft and that the total duration of the flight will be 16 hours, which will considerably shorten the travel time between China and Mexico. In that sense, the route will contribute to the development of economic and commercial demand in China and Latin America, according to the state agency.

Data

According to state media, China was—before the pandemic—the Asian country that sent the most tourists to Mexico, with a figure greater than 100,000. and a per capita expenditure of about US$2,000 on average.

The return trip to China is expected to make a short stopover of about 30 minutes in Tijuana, a border city between Mexico and southern California.
