Tottus will put 2 million panettones on sale after new laboratory tests

The supermarket chain Tottus will put on sale 60 lots of panetones of its brand, after the Consumer Protection Commission N ° 3 (CC3) of Indecopi decided to vary the precautionary measure that weighed against it and that prevented its commercialization and distribution by, supposedly, contain more trans fat than allowed by law.

How much is a lot? In communication with La República, Tottus specified that, when the product is finished in the store, it is replenished by the thousand, which is equivalent to one lot. The lots usually have between 30 and 35 thousand units.

Through its social networks, the store assured that the private laboratory hired on the part to comply with the requirements of the regulatory body agreed with them, in accordance with current health regulations. It should be noted that the prior analysis carried out by the State said otherwise.

“We are complying with the provisions of Indecopi’s Consumer Protection Commission N ° 3 (CC3), regarding the requirement to prove that the batches of our ‘Tottus traditional recipe’ panettones that are made available to consumers do not have trans fats or, if any, are within the parameters allowed by Supreme Decree No. 033-2015-SA of the Ministry of Health, “he said.

He also said that the new tests will be progressive as the products are replenished in their different distribution channels. Previously, the company had spoken of at least 4 million panetones that could be lost after the precautionary measure initially presented by Indecopi.

“We have the results of the first respective tests on 60 batches of our Tottus panettone in its 900-gram presentation, through the Pacific Control CMA SAC Laboratory, which confirm that said product has less than 0.01 grams of trans fat per every 100 grams of fat, parameters that comply with what is stipulated in the current standard ”, the company sent.

With this, the commercialization of Tottus panettones should be restored from this afternoon. For its part, Indecopi must verify each of the 60 laboratory tests – and those that come from now on – to verify their suitability. However, they will only do this from next Tuesday, since Indecopi, like almost all state agencies, goes on holiday from tomorrow Friday 24 to Monday 27, for when the panettones are already consumed.

“We are beginning to sell our panettone in stores, as we obtain results from the different batches, in order to restart the sale of it to the delight of our consumers, who want not only a product of good taste and quality, but also also at a good price this Christmas “, concluded Tottus.
