Chancay Megaport will increase stays in Huaral hotels by more than 40%

Rosa Elena Balcázar, past president of the Huaral Hotels, Restaurants and Related Association, and current CEO of Las Dalias Tourist Investments, pointed out that with the presence of the Chancay Megaport, the occupancy of hotels in Huaral will improve significantly, exceeding 40 % reached only on holidays and festive weeks.

Along these lines, with the port terminal about to be inaugurated during the Presidential Summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), the 30 hotels that operate in the province of Huaral propose improving their infrastructure to provide good service to both the guest and the locally, as well as abroad.

“The quality of services will definitely be improved, taking into account that the market is very competitive. There will also be a greater flow of internal tourism due to the offers that will be offered, in addition to senior executives from abroad,” said Balcázar.

Likewise, he explained that the attractiveness of Chancay as a center of economic development has also attracted the attention of foreign investors and hotel chains. In this way, together with Ancón, it will be an area chosen for tourism development.

On the other hand, there is great expectation in the development of new industrial parks in the area, also driven by the port, a fact that will attract a greater number of businesses. To date, the construction of the megaport has been generating 1,300 direct jobs and around 8,000 indirect jobs.

What is the progress of the Chancay megaport?

The multipurpose terminal that intends to turn Peru into the maritime South Pacific hub towards Asia is 74% complete, according to Ismael Sutta, Vice Minister of Transportation.

Likewise, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) stated that the tunnel that goes from the Special Zone of Chancay to the terminal “has made great progress” and is “practically completed.”

On the other hand, Sergio González Guerrero, Minister of Production, explained that the work of the artisanal fishing landing (DPA) of Chancay has an investment of more than S/23 million and is currently more than 90% complete.

The new port and commercial hub that Peru is developing is designed to generate annual income of more than US$10,000 million.
