The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) reported that the Cosco Shipping company will have no problems implementing exclusivity of services at the Chancay Megaport.

In dialogue with RPP Noticias, Minister Raúl Pérez-Reyes said that the modification of the National Port System Law approved in the first vote two weeks ago in Congress “will allow us to turn the page in relation to this debate around exclusivity.” Still the second vote is missing.

“We believe that the conditions would already be established in relation to the problem that existed. The law will allow exclusivity for a port authorization; then, the rule will be applied and Cosco Shipping will implement exclusivity in Chancay without any problem, having a law as protection and not an interpretation within the framework of a directorial resolution. “This guarantees legal security for investments,” said the minister.

Along these lines, the head of the MTC mentioned that the Chancay Megaport is almost 80% complete and the work will be completed next November for its inauguration.

In this sense, Pérez-Reyes expressed that there are “small coordinations in relation to operating permits, infrastructure, telecommunications and minor things that complement the project.”

“A good part of the cargo that will go to Chancay comes from northern Peru, so we have to enable the Chancayllo area because it will be affected when a significant number of trucks arrive that will stop there and will no longer go to Callao,” he explained. the official.
