Workers’ Day: CGTP calls for national mobilization for May 1

The General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP), in response to inflation and low salaries, urges citizens and different social organizations to participate in the march within the framework of International Labor Day. The concentration will take place tomorrow, May 1, in Campo de Marte at 9 am, and in the provinces, according to the corresponding coordination.

One of the main issues to be discussed will be the lack of protection of the State in the face of generalized inflation that impacts the prices of the basic family basket. In that sense, they demand an increase in the minimum living wage, currently S/1,025, as well as an increase in pensions and national policies that allow a reform to reduce informality, which today amounts to more than 70%.

On the other hand, Gilmer Ibáñez Meléndrez, Secretary of Defense of the CGTP, explains that there is a political direction from the Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion, Daniel Maurate, as he assures that he is on the side of the employers and not the workers. This, after the untimely dismissal of the 21 workers from Latina Televisión and Farmacias Peruanas, one day after forming the union.

“From the confederation, we are also promoting the resignation of the Minister of Labor because he has not done anything regarding strategic points. “We want the resignation of the minister and the bad officials he is in charge of,” says Ibáñez.

Likewise, they will march in rejection of projects without social license that affect agriculture and the population, such as Tía María. The union explains that the project assured by the Minister of Economy and Finance, José Arista, “is one of those that has all the requirements met”, which would affect agriculture and the comprehensive development of the Tambo Valley and the southern area of the country.
