Banco de la Nación will reach 203 districts throughout Peru with antennas and solar panels

The Banco de la Nación plans to install solar panels and antennas in communal premises to cover the gap in 203 districts that, at the national level, do not have a physical presence of the service with co-responsible agencies, ATMs or ATMs. Work on the first 100 would begin in June.

Currently, there are 1,890 districts in Peru. Cecilia Arias, manager of Products and Financial Inclusion, indicated for The Republic that part of the 203 without access to physical banking would not be served because they have communication infrastructure link problems or do not have stabilized energy that allows the POS to function properly.

“We, through the National Financial Inclusion Policy, have been reporting the coverage of the Banco de la Nación and the presence of its channels. However, this has always been measured at the level of the districts that do have a communication link” , he said during the International Microfinance Seminar-SIM Ica 2024.

The proposal, explains Arias, contemplates the installation of satellite antennas and solar panels to achieve communication or link with the Multired channel, which works with a POS.

The ATM uses non-polluting energy such as solar energy, whose maintenance cost is considerably reduced, which means a decrease in operating costs

Through this connectivity, the municipality can request affiliation and join the Banco de la Nación ATM network and begin to provide financial services. The first solar-powered ATM was inaugurated in March 2023, in San Juan de Lurigancho.

“The Banco de la Nación would also come with the topic of financial education and opening accounts for an adequate ecosystem of transactions. The agent always works within the municipal premises, in a place close to the public,” highlighted the official.

Of the 203 districts, at least 100 have already expressed their interest to participate in the program and work would begin in June or July of this year. The idea is to finish all of them by the end of the year and catch up with the others throughout 2025.
