The Mall Aventura San Juan de Lurigancho has brought several new features to the largest district in Peru. It opened its doors in November of last year and thus became the first SJL shopping center. Since its opening, this shopping center has been incredibly popular and is made up of several shops, restaurants and venues that are usually packed, especially on weekends.
With this success, more investments are coming San Juan de Lurigancho and three shopping centers will be built in the district to emulate the popularity of Mall Aventura SJL. These are the following: the Cencosud mall, the Real Plaza San Juan de Lurigancho and the Megaplaza San Juan de Lurigancho.
The Censocud mall in San Juan de Lurigancho
This mall will be Cencosud’s largest establishment in Peru. It will have seven floors and will offer a leasable area of 107,000 square meters. According to statements by Manfred Paulmann, president of the Board of Directors of Cencosud Shopping, the complex will house 345 commercial premises, including four large anchor stores.
Additionally, visitors will be able to enjoy a variety of restaurants located on the upper terrace, a large food court, movie theaters, entertainment areas and a comprehensive medical center. The new mall Cencosud will be built in the place where the La Hacienda Metro is currently located, located at the intersection of Próceres de la Independencia and Jardines Este avenues, next to Maquinarias and Los Tornillos streets.
This space already has establishments such as McDonald’s, CineStar and various retail stores. It is important to highlight that the design of the mall contemplates a mixed-use approach and offers not only commercial spaces, but also cultural and institutional services, in addition to residential options.
Real Plaza SJL
In mid-2019, Real Plaza, which is part of the InRetail group of the Intercorp Perú consortium, announced the construction of two new shopping centers in the city of Lima. One of these will be located in Surco and the other in San Juan de Lurigancho.
According to information provided by the company, each of the shopping centers will have a leasable area of approximately 43,890 square meters. In a corporate presentation, the company highlighted that the construction of these centers will generate 700 jobs and, once operational, more than 900.
Megaplaza in San Juan de Lurigancho
Little is known about the new Megaplaza in San Juan de Lurigancho. The project, whose specific details regarding the start of construction and total investment are still to be defined, was confirmed in mid-2022 by Alejandro Camino, CEO of Parque Arauco.
Camino warned that processing the necessary permits could extend the execution deadlines by approximately one year. Furthermore, he highlighted the complexity of these urban developments in the district.
