Indecopi: Alberto Villanueva is appointed as the new president of the entity

The Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) appointed Alberto Villanueva Eslava as the new president of the Board of Directors of the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi). Through Supreme Resolution No. 114-2024-PCM, this appointment was made official, which includes the signatures of President Dina Boluarte and the Chief of Staff, Gustavo Adrianzén.

The new head of Indecopi replaces Karin Cáceres, who resigned from the Indecopi board a week ago. Villanueva Eslava is a lawyer from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and has served as member and president of the Specialized Chamber in Bankruptcy Procedures of said entity.

Alberto Villanueva: who is the new president of Indecopi?

Alberto Villanueva Eslava is a lawyer who graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and has a Master of Laws (LLM) from Cornell Law School. Likewise, he studied negotiation at Harvard University Law School and has taught at various law schools in the country.

Likewise, he has served as senior lawyer for Peru and Bolivia for Pepsico and was alternate agent of the Peruvian State before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and Legal Manager for Peru and Bolivia for Snacks América Latina Perú SRL. Finally, he was Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences from the Universidad Privada del Norte, and held the position of member and President of the Chamber Specialized in Bankruptcy Procedures of said entity.

Indecopi: Karin Cáceres resigned from the presidency of the entity

Last Friday, April 12, lawyer Karin Cáceres made official her resignation from the position of president of the Board of Directors of the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi)after a year has passed since being appointed by the former president of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otárola.

Through a letter, Cáceres requested his departure from the current head of the PCM, Gustavo Adrianzén, expressing his gratitude for the trust granted to occupy that position. “I will not neglect the functions that I have been carrying out until notification of the acceptance of my present resignation,” this document reads.

It is worth mentioning that Karin Cáceres had been appointed in 2023 to replace Julián Palacín, who was removed from the position of president of the board of directors of Indecopi due to not meeting the minimum requirements stipulated in law No. 31419, which establishes provisions to guarantee the suitability in the access and exercise of the public function of freely appointed and removed officials and managers.
