The tram will arrive in Zorrozaurre from Olabeaga and will have 5 stops

The works could begin at the end of the year 2024 or the beginning of 2025 and will have a length of 2.5 kilometers.

The future tram that will reach Zorrozaurre, in Bilbao, will have five stops, and 2.5 kilometers in length. It will start in the vicinity of the Euskalduna Palace and will enter the island from the neighborhood of Olabeaga by a new 100-meter bridge over the estuary that will need to be built.

The Minister of Transport, IƱaki Arriola, and the mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, have announced this Wednesday the new layout that will allow the extension of the tram from the capital of Biscay to the island of Zorrozaurre, which has highlighted the joint work developed by the technical teams of both institutions and the political will to continue collaborating to extend the tram.

The works could begin at the end of the year 2024 or the beginning of 2025, as calculated by the counselor. With an estimated investment of 40 million euros and a 40-month period for the execution of works and commissioning, the Basque Government will assume 65% of the cost and the Bilbao City Council the remaining 35%.

It’s about a informative study progress which, at the moment, is in the drafting phase by the railway manager Euskal Trenbide Sarea. After the conclusion of these works, the study will be approved provisionally, waiting for it to be submitted to the public information process for the presentation of allegations by the general public.
