Proinversión signed the contract to prepare the studies that will define the viability and investment mechanism of the Chinecas (Áncash) irrigation project.
The agreement was reached with the companies Consorcio LSH Consulting Engineers SAC – Water Energy and Mining Ingenieros Consultores SA According to Proinversión, it is “an important step” to materialize this work.
It is estimated that Chinecas will increase agroindustrial production by US$1.5 billion annually and create 150,000 new jobs.
These pre-investment studies will be carried out within a period of 14 months and will allow for the declaration of viability of the project: with this, the evaluation report will be prepared that will define whether the project is developed through Public-Private Association (PPP), within the framework of a promotion process, or goes as a public work.
If it is carried out via PPP, Proinversión will design and conduct the structuring and transaction phases of the project, as well as the tender that will allow the development of Chinecas to be awarded to a specialized concessionaire.
It is worth adding that the project will require an investment of more than US$700 million by diverting water from the Santa River to incorporate 50,000 hectares of new land and improve irrigation in another 33,000 hectares in the valleys and intervals of Santa Lacramarca, Nepeña, Casma and Huarmey.
