Chinchero Airport: MTC will deliver S/40 million to the Natividad Consortium to continue with works

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) reported that it will inject S/40 million into the Natividad Consortium so that the works at the Chinchero International Airport do not stop, considering the obstacles raised internally.

As reported The Republicthe terminal barely registers 12% progress in its execution and would not be ready in 2025 – as expected – but would take up to a couple of more years.

“An advance of 40 million (soles) will be given that will be managed in the next six weeks in order to sign an addendum. It will help them immediately hire 200 people to work and begin with the petrimetric fence and to fulfill their commitments to the communities. “We cannot execute disbursements without progress”said the Vice Minister of Transportation, Ismael Sutta, during the decentralized session of the Transportation and Communications Commission of Congress, held this Tuesday from Chinchero.

Meanwhile, the minister Raul Perez-Reyes He pointed out that the budget law contemplates S/512 million to carry out the works at the Chinchero Airport and that the Government’s objective is to not stop it.

“It is not that a piece of paper is opened and the work follows that route. There are problems and processes to be resolved. That is our job. The Central Government’s commitment is to the development of Cusco and Chinchero,” commented the official.

It is worth noting that The Natividad Consortium assured that they have financing and technical problems due to external factors, such as the advance of rain, and internal factors, such as unforeseen logistics expenses, which have generated losses of US$40 million. They even filed 15 disputes against the State, asking for longer deadlines and costs, but they were rejected by the DAB (Dispute Adjudication Board).
