Lot 192: Petroperú gives 61% to Altamesa and they will increase production to 16,000 bpd

Petroperú agreed to transfer 61% of the contractual position it held over Lot 192 to the Canadian capital company Altamesareported the Perupetro agency.

In this way, the former Lot 1-AB will restart its production in the third quarter of 2024, more than three years after the departure of Frontera Energy.

From now on it is contemplated that Altamesa will be responsible for all investments, as consummated by DS 005-2024, published in February. However, if in the next two years the price of a barrel remains above US$60, the state company will occupy 39% to 49% until the end of the contract.

The Work Program for Lot 192 maintains that the consortium Petroperú-Altamesa must drill 41 development wells and one exploratory well during the first period of the exploitation phase. The first will be drilled around 2026.

Production is expected to begin at around 250-500 barrels per day (bpd) between July and August this year. The former Lot 1-AB has around 250 wells, of which 85 were closed, but with crude oil. With the latter, recovery will begin, but in many the deterioration will require workover work.

It is expected that in the second quarter of 2025, Block 192 would produce 10,000 bpd.

“With the drilling that will come later, An Environmental Impact Study (EIA) must be carried out that will last no less than two years. After that, estimated production is above 16,000 bpd, thanks to the 41 wells. But that comes from the fifth year of operation,” commented Tomás Díaz, corporate manager of Exploration, Production and Pipeline at Petroperú.

Sources of Perupetro They informed La República that an agreement was reached with Petroperú to “recognize” the cost overruns due to the damage generated in Lot 192 during the time it was abandoned. Petroperú expects to inject oil through the northern branch of the Norperuano Pipeline towards the last quarter of this year. Furthermore, in June or July it would be signing with the operator of the Lot 64.
