Commerce Sector grew 5.14% in October of this year

In October 2021, the production of the Commerce sector increased by 5.14% when compared to the same month of the previous year, driven by the positive evolution of the wholesale, retail and automotive trade, according to the National Institute of Statistics. and Computer Science (INEI).

And in the accumulated from January to October of this year, this sector registered an accumulated variation of 21.48%. This positive behavior occurred in the regulatory framework on the extension of the State of National Emergency that modifies capacity restrictions.

In detail, during the month of study, wholesale trade increased by 6.12% driven by the main wholesale branches, such as the sale of other types of machinery and equipment, by the greater distribution of mining, industrial and construction machinery. A similar trend presented the commercialization of food, beverages and tobacco; the sale of basic necessities; and that of chemical products for the manufacture of plastic material products.

Likewise, the sale of textile products, clothing and footwear grew, due to the greater commercialization of ready-made products; the sale of metals and metalliferous minerals; as well as that of other household goods, due to the largest dispatch of pharmaceutical and medicinal products. However, the sale of construction materials, hardware and equipment fell; in addition to the sale of computers, peripheral equipment and software.

For its part, the retail trade registered an increase of 2.39%, mainly due to sales in large supermarket and hypermarket chains, as higher sales were registered, and in department stores.

The item of the sale of fuels and lubricants for motor vehicles in supermarkets evolved favorably due to the greater flow of vehicles. A similar trend showed the sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods in specialized stores (outlet), by spring campaign. It also highlighted the sale of pharmaceutical and medicinal products, cosmetics and toiletries.

In addition, the sale of construction materials and hardware increased, due to progress in home remodeling and self-construction; The same trend showed the sale of books, newspapers and stationery in specialized stores.

However, this positive result was offset by the drop in the sale of personal safety products, optical, dental, agricultural and veterinary products; The sale of computers, peripheral units, computer programs and telecommunications equipment in specialized stores also decreased.

Finally, in October of this year, the automotive trade increased by 5.78% due to the greater commercialization of light and heavy vehicles; as well as for the sale of parts, pieces and accessories of motor vehicles. However, there was a decrease in the sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles and their parts, pieces and accessories, as well as the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles.
