At a global and regional level, several companies are betting on ‘pilot projects’ to promote the balance between work and personal life of their employees, according to a recent study by Mercer Marsh Benefits.

Thus, 19% of Peruvian companies would opt to reduce their work week from 5 to 4 days: 24% of these to balance interpersonal and productive relationships, and 19% to make their workers more productive.

Lina Yupanqui, Senior Consultant of the company that prepared the report, points out the predisposition of 19% of companies, although it is not a high prevalence, it gives rise to flexibility, adaptation to disruptive changes and interest of companies in positively impacting their employees.

Among other reasons: 17% would shorten the work week to reinforce the commitment of their employees, 12% to make them happier, 10% to reinforce their brand, 7% to reinforce the attraction and loyalty strategy, and a 5% to generate cost efficiencies and reduce the stress of your workers.

Obstacles to the reduction of the work week

Mercer Marsh Benefits explains that one of the reasons for not implementing this scheme is that 42% of companies have a marked culture, 32% do not know how to apply it, 13% lack legal guidelines and 12% are afraid that it will affect the operation of the business.
