The average monthly income in Metropolitan Lima was S/1,982 in the moving quarter of December (2023), January and February (2024), reported the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).
This level represents a progress of 8.1% compared to the similar period a year ago, and is 10.7% higher than the pre-pandemic level for that moving quarter.
It should be noted that inflation closed last year at 3.41%, below the data for 2021 and 2022, which were 6.99% and 8.56%, respectively. This data is critical to understanding the real progress of average income.
In descending order, the sectors that showed a better performance of average monthly salaries in the study period were Construction (S/2,122), Services (S/2,129), Manufacturing (S/2,031) and Commerce (S/1,463), the latter with the lowest performance compared to pre-emergency levels.
Furthermore, the gap between men and women continues to widen: the average income for women was S/1,616, and that of men S/2,289, a difference of S/673. A year ago, the average difference was S/552.
Regarding age groups, INEI reported that the average income for the population between 14 and 24 years of age was S/1,206; for the threshold between 25 and 44 years, S/2,126; and for those over 45 years of age, S/2,058.
