Bird flu outbreak detected in Akamarre duck farm

All the birds have been euthanized and the authorities have ordered the perimeter closure of the farm located in the town of Baja Navarra to prevent the spread of the H5N1 virus.

Health authorities they have slaughtered all the ducks of a poultry farm in the town of Akamarre (Lower Navarra) after detecting an outbreak of bird flu, as reported this Monday by the newspaper South West.

The presence of H5N1 virus it was detected last Saturday and the birds were euthanized the next day. The results of the tests carried out have confirmed that the birds were contaminated.

The prefecture of the Atlantic Pyrenees, which has warned that it is a “very contagious” virus, has established a perimeter closure of up to 10 kilometers around the farm of Akamarre, as explained by the president of the Chamber of Agriculture of the Atlantic Pyrenees, Bernard Layre.

The Directorate General for Food is conducting real-time surveillance to prevent the spread of the virus.
