Delivery app drivers in Peru are preparing for a national strike on Monday the 11th, in search of an improvement in their working conditions. The mobilization, supported by the Union of Digital Platform Workers (Sintrapladi) and the General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP)seeks to draw attention to the precariousness of their situation and demand fair rates, job security and the recognition of their labor rights.
This strike, which puts leading companies in the sector such as Uber, Rappi, PedidosYa and InDrive in the spotlight, promises to have a significant impact on the delivery industry. Delivery drivers are demanding fair pay and improvements to their work environment, hoping to bring about a substantial change in the way they are treated and compensated.
What are the demands of delivery workers?
Paul Véliz, representative of Sintrapladi, highlighted to La República the injustice of the rates received by delivery drivers. He pointed out that for routes of more than 4 km, the applications barely pay them S / 2.80 per order. The lack of dialogue on the part of companies aggravates the situation, which leaves workers in a vulnerable position.
In addition, Véliz denounces abusive practices such as blocking delivery people who reject orders in dangerous areas or at night. “We want to be autonomous, but for our rights to be respected,” he says. Along these lines, he demands freedom to choose without compromising his security or remuneration.
STOP of delivery app drivers: how will it affect customers?
The strike of delivery drivers will have direct consequences for customers. A decrease in the availability of delivery drivers is anticipated, which could result in delays or lack of people for deliveries. Consumers should prepare for longer than usual wait times for the duration of the shutdown.
Delivery apps: what will be the route of the mobilizations?

What will be the economic losses due to the STOP of delivery workers?
Jesús Mundo, Secretary of Finance of the Delivery Workers Union, in an interview with RPP estimated that economic losses could amount to nine million soles in a single daywhich will affect stores, restaurants and companies linked to the sector.
“A delivery person makes an average of 30 orders a day, if we take an average that each order costs 60 soles, then he makes 1,800 soles and, if we apply it among 5,000 delivery people, we are talking about nine million soles a day,” he said.
The working conditions of delivery drivers
The employment situation of delivery drivers is precarious, according to Alejandra Dinegro, sociologist and director of the Peru Platforms Observatory. Apart from the vehicular SOAT, these workers do not have any type of insurance and, for the most part, are unaware of the terms and conditions of their work when joining the platforms. The lack of clarity about their employment status and the absence of basic benefits leaves them in a vulnerable position.
