The Ministry of Production (Produce) offers credits for artisanal fishermen and aquaculturists throughout the country with the aim of improving their productive development. Until recently, one of the requirements to apply for these loans was to have turned 65 years old, but a latest Headquarters Resolution of the National Fisheries Development Fund (Fondepes) states the extension of the age limit for the respective qualification.
This measure is contemplated in the new Fondepes credit management regulations that were approved last Friday, January 26 of this year. Let us remember that these credits serve to finance the purchase of fishing materials and equipment, as well as provide financial aid for the manufacture of boats, repairs and thermal insulation of the winery.
Produce extends the age to grant loans to artisanal fishermen: what is it?
According to the new credit management regulations of the Fondepesone of the conditions for workers who are dedicated to artisanal fishing or aquaculture to request these credits is that they are over 18 years old or under 67. Let us remember that previously the maximum age to access this service was 65 years old. .
What other requirements must fishermen meet to request credits?
The new Fondepes credit management regulations establish the general rules of the financing management process for fisheries and aquaculture development. In this sense, article 14 indicates the following requirements to request a loan:
- Be over 18 and under 67 years of age.
- Have the National Identity Document.
- Artisanal fishermen must present any of these documents: fishing license, boarding book, certificate of registration of the artisanal fishing vessel, registration of artisanal rowing fishing vessels, diver’s license, non-boarded fisherman certification, fishing permit and skipper. of artisanal fishing computed, according to the date of initial registration.
- In the case of workers who are dedicated to the aquaculture activity of the AREL and Amype categories, they can present the following documents: permit resolution in favor of the applicant, authorization resolution in favor of the applicant, concession resolution and documents of a similar nature to those mentioned above.

Credits for fishermen and aquaculturists: what are the amounts?
In accordance with article 26 of the Fondepes credit management regulations, fishing workers or aquaculture workers can access the following amounts depending on the activity they carry out:
- Embarked and non-embarked fishermen: 1 UIT (S/5,150) in 18 monthly installments.
- Artisanal fish processors: 3 UIT (S/15,450) in a first credit and up to 4 UIT (S/20,600) in a second or third credit, with a maximum term of 18 installments per month.
- Artisanal shipowners and aquaculturists: 7 UIT (S/36,050), 10 UIT (S/51,500) and 22 UIT (S/113,300) in their first, second or third credit, with a term of up to 36 months.
- The grace period in the case of credits for aquaculturists was extended to six months. Before, it was only four months.
