In 2023, remittances from Peruvians residing abroad reached US$4,446 million, 19.9% more than what was seen in 2022, according to the Central Reserve Bank (BCRP).
The rise was driven by higher shipments from the United States and surpassed the 3.2% annual expansion seen in 2022.
The issuing entity adds that the total remittances are equivalent to 1.7% of GDP.
In the fourth quarter alone, remittance shipments reached US$1,207 million, 22.3% higher than the same period in 2022. The recovery of employment in the United States—the main source of remittances—supports the increase.
