Government launches package of measures to reactivate the local and family economy

The government of Dina Boluarte has approved a package of measures to reactivate the local and family economy. Emergency Decree 003-2024, published this Thursday, February 22 in an extraordinary manner, states that although economic expectations for the end of 2023 projected a recovery of the economy, this has not been observed; on the contrary, GDP fell 0.6%.

While by 2024, national production is exposed to multiple risk factors that could affect growth, such as the persistence of inflationary pressures, further tightening of monetary policy rates; slowdown in economic activity in China that would impact lower demand for raw materials, including copper, and a context of geopolitical tensions.

In that sense, at the local level, “the risk factors that could prolong the recessive economic context of economic activity in Peru are the resumption of social protests and political instability; and the slow recovery of investment expectations.”

“As Minister of Economy and Finance, my management is committed to fiscal stability, institutionality and predictability; elements that allow us to generate trust, support investment and build social peace,” the minister published on his X (Twitter) account. What are the approved measures?

Among the approved measures, it is detailed that to contribute to the strengthening of the Municipal Popular Credit Banks and the Municipal Savings and Credit Banks, it is allowed that adopt a capitalization agreement for the entire profits obtained in 2023 after meeting certain requirements.

Measures are also approved to update the risk classification of financial institutions to access the Impulso Myperu program, as well as the strengthening of the Fund for the Financial Inclusion of Small Agricultural Producers (FIFPPA) with S/100 million.

It is authorized to Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis) the execution of road infrastructure maintenance activities for bridle paths and local roads or motorized trails in prioritized rural and dispersed rural population centers, through the Cooperation Fund for Social Development. S/100 million are allocated for this.

In addition, S/290 million 175,391 are transferred in favor of the Ministry of Production (Produce) so that the acquisition of school kits by mypes, consisting of notebooks, backpacks, sweatshirts and polo shirts, is financedand that its distribution is ensured.
