Petroperú workers summon Minem for continuity of operations in Talara

The oil production and administration workers of Petróleos del Perú – Petroperú SA rejected, through a statement, the statements of the Minister of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Mucho Mamani, stating that the state oil company of all Peruvians “is a company that is broken.”

In the opinion of the workers of the Peruvian oil company, “the state position of the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte Zegarra, who on December 29, 2023, during her official speech, pointed out that the New Talara Refinery ( NRT) operates at full capacity.

The document, signed by the National Federation of Oil, Energy and Related Workers of Peru (Fenpetrol), states that the NRT favors energy security. It should be noted that the complex already produces gasoline, diesel, asphalt and liquefied petroleum gas and other products. In addition, it “strengthens the supply of clean fuels” to meet national demand and requirements in the north, center, south and east of the country.

“Isn’t the minister, Rómulo Mucho Mamani, aware that if Petroperú were bankrupt, the president herself would have announced it and would not have attended the ceremony for the start of operation of the NRT?” the organization stated.

In the same sense, Fenpetrol denounced that the former ministers of Economy and Finance, and of Energy and Mines, Alex Alonso Contreras Miranda and Óscar Vera Gargurevich, respectively, indicated at the end of 2023 before the media – and in the same official line of President Boluarte – that Petroperú had been generating profits without having begun full operation of the refinery complex.

“It should be noted that the effectiveness of the NRT is so great that before entering into operations, it has generated profits for the country by contributing S/7,000 million in income tax and VAT for the benefit of national development. This contribution to the national treasury will continue with the plant in full operation,” the document states.
