The head of the Ministry of Culture, Leslie Urteaga, reported that between June 1 and October 15 of this year, they will increase the capacity allowed in Machu Picchu to 5,600 visitors.
The official stated that it is the first time that “agreements with great interest have been reached to improve the services” of our wonder of the world.
Now, he hopes that people “know and plan” to go to the Inca citadel and urged the authorities to execute plans “to develop tourist activity and conservation” of the sanctuary.
“Possibly, in the future, Machu Picchu will not have a low season, but the conservation and preservation indications that our natural, cultural and tourist sanctuary needs will be taken into account,” he noted.
The announcement comes after the words of the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Juan Carlos Mathews, in Davos, where he announced that a larger capacity will be established in Machu Picchu, which currently receives 4,500 people a day.
