Alex Contreras, who served as Minister of Economy and Finance since December 2022, announced on social networks his departure from the Jirón Junín colossus.
“The year 2023 was particularly challenging, but it was worth the effort, the economy was able to emerge from the recession and has entered an expansion process that is essential to maintain and accelerate,” he wrote in X.
In his farewell message, Contreras Miranda explained that in light of the recent claim by MSEs for the Government’s inaction, he left an Emergency Decree that he hopes “will be approved by the Council of Ministers” to continue supporting small businesses.
Likewise, he declared to TV Perú after it became official that José Arista will replace him as Minister of Economy, that “the plans have worked” and for January and February there will be “strong numbers.”
In Contreras Miranda’s opinion, it is viable to grow at 3%—despite the fact that specialized fronts expect to rebound by just 2%—and the change of ministers is a “political refreshment” that “hopefully will close the story of instability.”
