Juan Carlos Mathews, Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, stated that, in the desire to establish a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with India, they began the sixth round of negotiations.
“New alliances in sight,” read the message shared by the official in X.
It is worth adding that, in November of last year, Mathews estimated that the FTA with India, as well as with Hong Kong and Thailand, would be signed this year, having already made progress in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in the United States.
“Peru has the commercial cake fairly well distributed, we do not depend on North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia,” he told Radio Nacional, highlighting the greater flow of investment, trade and tourism.
Furthermore, as reported by La República, the FTA with India is expected to allow Peruvian exports to rise by up to 8%.
“Taking into account that it is the second economy in the world in population and that it will soon become number one (…), that it has a significant consumption capacity and an opportunity to capture investments here, there is a quite interesting expectation. I would say that trade could grow by 7% or 8%,” he explained.
