Sales of fans and AC will double: heat wave will leave companies out of stock before the end of summer

The Lima Chamber of Commerce anticipates a boom in sales of fans and air conditioning systems during the summer 2024and estimates a double increase compared to the figures for 2023. This phenomenon is due to an intense heat wave that has been affecting several regions of the country since the end of last year.

In a recent interview with Andina, Carlos José Mujica, representative of the household appliances sector of the CCL, highlighted a preliminary growth in demand for these teams of close to 80% at the end of January 2024, in relation to the previous year, so this increase is projected to reach 100% at the end of the season. which could even exceed initial expectations.

Why will the sale of fans double?

According to Mujica, this increase in sales is due to the fact that this year’s heat began to be felt more strongly from October and November 2023, significantly advancing compared to last year, when the peak of heat was recorded in the second half of February.

“In January the increase in temperature has not stopped, it is even getting hotter. This has made companies better prepared in terms of their distribution, marketing and import of this equipment,” he said.

Although this increase in sales has been anticipated, Mujica comments that the current inventory of many brands may not be enough to cover the growing demand and that they would be sold out before the end of the hot season in the country.

“Our perception is that many brands will run out of stock. If we place import orders today, the equipment will only arrive in May. It is a matter of opportunity (that must be anticipated),” added Carlos Mujica.

Prices of fans and air conditioners

At the moment, fan prices have not risen, since, unlike last year, when stocks ran out at the end of January, this time companies have increased their purchase orders. They have imported three times as many fans and have increased the acquisition of air conditioning equipment by 80%.

This effort to satisfy demand is also reflected in the absence of discounts by brands, since high demand has kept prices stable without the need for additional incentives.

Currently, as can be seen in retail stores, the prices of portable fans vary between S/80 and S/3,700, depending on the model and type. As for air conditioning equipment, they vary widely, with basic portable models available from S/600 to S/700, and more advanced and larger options, which can cost between 2,000 and 3,000 soles.

Split-type systems start in a range of S/1,200 to S/1,500 for the simplest models, and can reach up to S/20,000 depending on their technical characteristics and cooling capacity. For larger, more professional projects, the cost will depend directly on the technical specifications and scope of the project.
