The National Fisheries Development Fund (Fondepes), an entity attached to the Ministry of Production (Produce), It plans to train around 15,000 aquaculturists and artisanal fishermen during 2024.
In detail, it is projected to reach 6,000 people linked to artisanal fishing, mainly from the Piura, Lima and Arequipa regions. For its part, in aquaculture, it is estimated to train 9,000 people including aquaculture producers, officials, professionals and students in all regions of Peru and abroad.
In aquaculture, the aim will be to serve 700 people through 19 virtual training events and 1,620 in person through 37 technical events. Additionally, It is estimated to transfer knowledge to 7,151 people nationally and internationally, through 34 events through the Aquaculture Saturdays platform.
Likewise, training will be carried out for 22 officials from 10 departments. These are technical activities that were requested and coordinated in a timely manner with the regional governments and municipalities with the central objective of contributing to the continuous improvement of the officials of Áncash, Ayacucho, Junín, Lima, Loreto, Madre de Dios, Piura, Puno, Tumbes and Cusco.
More than 80 free virtual courses
Currently, Fondepes offers more than 80 courses, both virtual and in-person, aimed at artisanal fishermen and aquaculturists. These initiatives are part of the institution’s commitment to strengthen the knowledge, skills and productive improvement of those dedicated to these activities.

It is necessary to mention that, within the framework of Supreme Decree 017-2021-PRODUCE, Regulation of Fisheries Management of the Perico Resource (ROP Perico), Fondepes teaches the course Good Practices for the Manipulation and Release of Sea Turtles in the regions of Piura, Lima , Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna. To date, 36 courses have been given, with which 1,185 artisanal fishermen and crew members have been trained.
