During December, fishing production fell 51.34%, reported the INEI in its recent report on the Conjunctural Advancement of Economic Activity.

The contraction in fishing is explained by the lower capture of species of maritime origin (-54.99%) for indirect human consumption (anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil), extracting 163,324 tons, compared to 1 million 039,010 tons reported in December of 2022, it fell 84.28%. The high presence of juvenile anchovy limited the sector.

Meanwhile, fishing for direct human consumption increased 9.77% due to the capture of species for canning (83.55%), frozen (10.49%) and for fresh consumption (5.82%).
