The Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and Private Pension Fund Administrators (SBS) issued a warning about a recent wave of fraudulent text messages that several users have been receiving. These communications are made in the name of the entity and provide information about changes in credit rating, a deceptive offer that seeks to take advantage of the public’s trust in financial institutions.
This fraudulent practice not only puts individuals’ personal security at risk, but also their financial stability. Therefore, in the following note from La República we tell you the recommendations that the SBS provides to report these scams and we show you the link to its official service regarding the credit report. Take note!
SBS warns about fraudulent messages: what is it about?
Through a statement issued on January 24, the SBS alerted the public about the existence of a series of fraudulent messages that report alleged changes in citizens’ credit ratings. This scam technique is carried out through communications to cell phones where they request your personal and financial data, which could be used for illicit purposes.
“These fraudulent communications represent a threat to the security of users, since they request personal and financial data. Therefore, the general population is urged to inform themselves appropriately and refrain from entering any suspicious links,” they said.
How to identify this type of scam to modify credit report?
The SBS advises verifying the source of any information received. Likewise, they clarify that legitimate messages from this entity are only sent via email to those users who are registered in their alert system. Any other means, especially text messages, should be considered suspicious and should not be responded to or provided with personal information.
“The SBS reiterates its commitment to the protection of citizens and calls for caution in the face of this type of misleading messages, recommending not sharing sensitive information and staying informed through official channels”they noted in their statement.
SBS 2024: what is the official link to the credit report?
For accurate and secure credit score information, SBS recommends using only its official website. On this platform, you can find the ‘Credit Alert’ service, which keeps users informed about changes in their credit rating and allows fraud situations to be detected.
“Our “SBS Credit Alert” service sends notifications about such changes, only to the email of those people who have registered in said alert system, not through text messages,” they indicated.
