The Executive Branch, through the Ministry of Production (Produce), set the fishing limit for bonito at 42,415 tons for all of 2024.

Ministerial Resolution No. 000026-2024-PRODUCE states that the measure will apply to fishing vessels that use purse seine nets greater than or equal to 20 m3 of hold capacity that have a valid permit.

In detail, 23,319 tons can be captured from January to April 30; 3,546 tons from May 1 to June 30; 2,082 tons from July 1 to August 30; 7,263 tons from September 1 to October 31 and 6,205 tons from November 1 to December 31, 2024.

The rule specifies that the catch limit for bonito may vary depending on biological-fishery and/or environmental factors estimated by the Peruvian Sea Institute (Imarpe).

And, if the limits established in each previously detailed period are reached or estimated to be reached, the General Directorate of Supervision, Inspection and Sanctions may suspend bonito fishing.

Those vessels that use passive fishing gear (such as the curtain) as well as purse seine vessels with less than 20 m3 of hold capacity are not subject to the limit established in the Produce resolution.
