The Peruvian Liquefied Gas Society (SPGL) warned that the price of LPG cylinders will increase starting today, Friday, January 26, “and could increase steadily month by month if the international price remains the same.”
According to the producers’ union, this situation would directly affect the more than 7 million homes that use this energy throughout the country. For what is this?
Supreme Decree No. 001-2024-EM, issued on January 20, states that the price of bottled LPG (LPG-E), which is used primarily in homes, must be calculated based on the import parity price. PPI and not the export parity price-PPE, as has been happening until now.
“In that sense, the inclusion of bottled LPG in the Stabilization Fund (FEPC) was intended to prevent the consumer from being affected by the volatility in the international market,” states the SPGL.
Another negative effect is the increase in the informal market for this fuel, which will offer LPG cylinders at cheaper prices, but unsafe and therefore with a high environmental, technical and safety risk.
The FEPC, in the opinion of SPGL, “must be designed by the authorities based on technical criteria and with the support of the industry”, in order to cushion international price variations and avoid affecting the economy of end users. of bottled LPG.
