Despite the promises of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, farm workers in the Piura region have not yet received their loans to grow their crops for the 2024 large campaign. According to the president of the Board of Users of Middle and Lower PiuraMacario Silva, Agrobanco must disburse the sum of 1,000 million soles to provide this benefit to farmers.
The leader explained that in December they began the processing of said credits to install the rice seedbeds. However, they did not have answers, so they had to look for other alternatives to achieve the purchase of seeds, fertilizersfungicides, among others.
“We are aware of the crisis facing the sector. Farmers choose rice because, given the announcement of rains It is the only crop that resists rainfall. Since the first weeks of December we have presented the files with all the requirements and support, but until now we have no response,” commented Silva Vílchez.
How many farmers will benefit?
As the field man explained, at the level of the Piura region, some 120,000 farmers They hope to benefit from these credits.
What was the commitment of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation?
Macario Silva recalled that, on her last visit to Piura, the Minister of Agrarian Development, Jenifer Contreras, publicly announced that by 2024 they plan to disburse 1,000 million soles as loans from Agrobanco. “But at the speed at which they are evaluating and approving, we are sure that they will not meet this Government objective,” he noted.
The farmers have asked the president of the board of directors of Agrobank speed in the evaluation of their files, since, if the approval of these is not expedited, the crops installed will suffer impacts due to the lack of timely application of the inputs and nutrients they need and they would be risking losses again due to low yield or lack of production. .
