Francke on refusal of tax powers: “We will insist with the impulse of the reform”

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Pedro Francke, he assured that, from the Executive, they will insist with the delegation of powers in tax matters, since Congress will not give its arm to twist to deliver the comprehensive package requested for that purpose.

During his participation in the morning in the forum “The challenges of democracy in Latin America”, organized by the Consortium for Economic and Social Research (CIES), the head of the MEF assured that higher collection is essential to reduce social gaps.

“We have asked Congress for economic powers to address Peru’s problems, but, apparently, they will grant us quite limited powers that will not allow us to advance in important aspects. But I think we have to insist on tax modifications that have more impact on collection and more effect on inequality, “he said.

In this sense, Francke Ballvé said that the government of President Pedro Castillo will renew the “momentum” for the economic reform of the country, through bills that allow them to raise the tax burden and fight against tax evasion. This, before knowing the partial approval of the economic package in the Hemicycle.

“We respect the decision of Congress, because the balance of powers is essential. However, we will continue to push forward the tax reform, in whatever is necessary we will present bills on matters that we do not have powers, because this is one of the essential reforms, “he remarked.

“One of the essential things to obtain a reform in Peru is political will, a decision to promote the tax reform, which has long been identified as one that Peru needs,” he concluded.
