Moquegua, Apurímac, Junín, Ayacucho and Ica are the five regions in the interior of the country whose exports as of November 2023 have already exceeded the historical annual values, as detailed by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur). The entity also indicated that by the end of 2023, at least 10 regions could register record export values.
In the case of Moquegua, the figures show that, in the period January-November 2023, its exports amounted to US$3,697 million, a value 108% higher than that registered in the same period of 2022. Its growth is associated with higher copper sales (+140%), molybdenum (+39%) and gold (+69%). In copper, the contribution of the Quellaveco project stands out.
Similarly, Apurímac exports amounted to US$3,240 million, a value 62.8 higher than that registered in the same period of 2022, thanks to the recovery of copper production at the Las Bambas mine.
“We are happy to announce that both Moquegua and Apurímac have reached the highest figures in their history in the sector. This tells us that even with the adversity that the world presents to us in economic matters, our regions continue to grow,” said the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Juan Carlos Mathews.
For its part, Junín closed November of last year totaling exports of US$2,179 million, a value 30.2% higher than that registered in the same period of 2022, thanks to higher shipments of zinc (+132%), ginger (+99%). and copper (+28%). Likewise, Ayacucho exported goods for US$847 million (+15.6%), highlighting the higher sales of silver and lead concentrates (+147%), gold (+8%) and quinoa (+28%).
Finally, Ica has not only surpassed its past export values, but has also positioned itself as the second exporting region in the interior of the country after accumulating US$5,419 million (+18.7%) in the January-November 2023 period, thanks to sales of copper (+89%), blueberry (+80%), long steel (+18%), zinc (+37%) and grapes (+31%).
Mincetur: exports in northern Peru on the rise
In the north of the country, Piura (+17.6%) and La Libertad (+5.4%) closed the first eleven months of the year with an increase in their dispatches. The first totaled US$3,344 million, which is explained by higher shipments of squid (+73%), fuel oil (+596%), grapes (+28%) and calcium phosphate (+23%).
La Libertad, positioned as the second most exporting region in northern Peru, closed November accumulating US$4,167 million as a result of higher sales of minerals such as anthracite (+27%), copper (+25%), silver concentrates and lead (+6%) and gold (+3%); and fishing goods such as fishmeal (+53%).
Finally, in eastern Peru, the only region that recorded growth in shipments was Madre de Dios (+12%) with a total of US$164 million thanks to higher gold shipments (+31%).
