Jorge Soto Yen, head of the DGM, maintained that, during 2023, Minem granted authorizations to 164 approved projects in the aforementioned areas, which would call for more than US$5,154 million in investments, achieving an increase of 285% compared to 2022. .
“In 2023, the country returned investor confidence, thanks to the management of the sector led by Minister Oscar Vera. Proof of this is the approval of 164 projects for US$5,154 million and the increase in the production of metals, mainly copper, which managed to reach important figures such as 2.7 fine metric tons,” Soto highlighted.
The MINEM authorized operations for 28 approved Exploration ruble projects that totaled a mining investment of US$323 million, an increase of 242% compared to 2022. In this group, Marcobre (US$194 million), Kiwanda (US$25 million) stand out. and Chakana (US$23 million).

Meanwhile, a group of 114 approved projects in the Benefit Concession category were authorized for a total of US$2,485 million, 233% more than that registered in 2022. The Chinalco (US$812 million), Yanacocha (US$368 million) and Las Bambas projects (US$269 million), stand out in this area.
