Congress denies the Executive the tax powers in the mining field

With 96 votes in favor, 18 against and 1 abstention, the Plenary of the Congress of the Republic approved the bill that delegates to the Executive Power, the power to legislate on tax, fiscal, financial and economic reactivation matters.

The replacement text approved by the Plenary does not fully include the tax reform proposed by the Executive. In this way, the government will not be able to make changes to the mining tax regime, raise taxes on those who earn the most, or simplify the tax regime for small businesses.

The president of the Constitution Commission, Patricia Juárez, from the Fuerza Popular bench, urged the Executive to send specific projects on issues not included so that they can be debated in Parliament.

In detail, the 24 congressmen of Fuerza Popular voted in favor of the replacement text that grants partial powers to the Executive. Meanwhile, 12 parliamentarians from the Popular Action bench, including Silvia Monteza, president of the Economic Commission, support the proposal of the Constitution Commission.

On the other hand, the ruling party, Peru Libre, had a divided vote, as 17 were in favor of the replacement text, while 13 voted against.
