This meant a slight decline of 0.05% compared to Friday’s close when it was quoted at S/3.7430, according to the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP). So far this year the currency has accumulated a variation of 0.92%.

At 2.00 p.m. The US currency in the parallel market was quoted at S/3.73 for purchase and S/3.75 for sale. While the reference exchange rate in the banking market reached S/3.6490 for purchases and S/3.8310 for sales in the Banco de Crédito del Perú (BCP).

Copper prices fell this Monday, as the market focused on the poor outlook for demand, particularly in China, the main consumer, while departures of the metal from the warehouses of the London Metal Exchange (LME) and a dollar weaker provided support.

At 17:07 GMT, benchmark copper on the LME was trading almost unchanged at US$8,349 a tonne. Traders said activity is remaining subdued and is likely to remain so until after the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday in February.

China’s troubled real estate sector and a slowdown in manufacturing around the world have weighed on prices of copper and other industrial metals over the past year.
