Number of exporting companies increased by 3% until November 2023

The number of Peruvian export companies reached 8,170, between January and November 2023, reflecting a slight increase of 3% compared to the same period in 2022 (7,932)reported the Global Economy and Business Research Center of the CIEN-ADEX Exporters Association.

Between January and November, microbusinesses (4,901) represented 60% of the total; small ones (2,611), 32%; the large ones (532), 6.5% and the medium ones (126), 1.5%. With this, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) concentrated 93.5% (7,638) of all export units.

In FOB amount (close to US$58,172 million between January and November 2023), it was observed that 95% of what was shipped abroad was in charge of large companies, followed by small (3.4%), medium (1 .2%) and microenterprises (0.4%).

Although the number of mypes was the largest within the total (92%), they only accumulated 3.8% of the valuedemonstrating a high atomization, which puts its permanence abroad at risk.

The majority of companies correspond to the agribusiness

The number of traditional exporting companies reported a marked evolution between January and November (14.1%), registering a new historical maximum (1,252), according to the CIEN-ADEX report. For their part, those with added value (7,158 between January and November 2023) did not reach their historical record of 2012 (10,707).

The highest stock corresponded to agribusiness (2,164), followed by metalworking (1,973), miscellaneous (1,502)chemical (1,500), clothing (1,167), mining (798), textile (620), iron and steel (557), non-metallic mining (509), fishing and aquaculture (318), traditional agriculture (358), wood ( 234), primary fishing (51) and hydrocarbons (47).

The companies that sent products from a single productive sector abroad were 6,110 (74.8% of the total); of 2, 14.9% (1,216); of 3, 5.4% (444) and of 4 or more, 4.9% (400).

In relation to supply, 46.4% of the firms (3,791) shipped a single product abroad, which showed their vulnerability to possible external shocks. 34.2% (2,795) between 2 and 5 products, 7.6% (622) between 6 and 9, and 11.8% (962) 10 or more products.

What is the main destination of Peruvian exporters?

At the market level, 56% (4,573) of the total exported to only one, while 5.4% (444) exported to 10 or more. In that context, The main destination by number of companies was the USA (2,372), followed by Chile (1,929) and Ecuador (1,375). He highlighted the increase in the number of those arriving in the United Arab Emirates (45.7%).

If only those that have a single product and a single destination are considered, the number was 2,763, which represented 33.8% of the total. These are the most sensitive to possible changes in trade policies due to their low diversification of products and destinations. In this group, 75.7% were microenterprises, followed by small (19.3%), large (3.4%) and medium-sized (1.7%).

Finally, in relation to regional origin, Lima was the one with the largest number of companies (5,365), followed by Puno (610) and Callao (603). On the other hand, Huancavelica, Amazonas and Apurímac had the fewest numbers with 36, 29 and 25, respectively.
