The Malaysian Department of Agriculture formalized the phytosanitary requirements for the entry of Peruvian avocados into this important Asian market, announced the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) of Peru.

With this new achievement of the sector, Peruvian “green gold” can enter 67 markets around the world, under strict sanitary and phytosanitary protocols, established by each importing country.

Production centers and processing plants that wish to export to this country will have to be registered on the official list of the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa), which will be made official prior to the start of each export campaign.

The export of avocado has shown dizzying growth, placing Peru as the second exporting country of this fruit in the world; In 2021, it exported more than 500,000 tons of Hass avocado to important destinations such as the United States, Chile, China, Japan, Korea, countries in the European Union, among others.

Currently, it has been observed that Peruvian producers continue to plant more areas with this crop, exceeding the certification of 40,000 hectares that belong to a total of 5,760 producers, of which 88% are small family farming producers. who have fields smaller than 5 hectares.

“The global demand for avocados continues to grow; therefore, it is essential that these agricultural products have access to greater commercial windows, generating thousands of jobs and promoting an improvement in the quality of life of family farming producers,” he highlighted. Midagri.

In Peru, La Libertad has established itself as the leading region in avocado exports, registering 207,368 tons during the 2021-2022 campaign, followed by Lambayeque, Lima, Ica, Junín, Áncash, Ayacucho and other regions with a lower proportion.
