Francke on development in the Amazon: “Public-private collaboration is essential”

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Pedro Francke, argued that the sustainable development of the Amazon depends on the correct use of its natural virtues and a correct articulation between the public and private sectors.

During his participation in the second day of the III Amazon Business Congress: The urgent challenge of sustainable and inclusive development of the Peruvian Amazon, Francke acknowledged that there are still gaps in connectivity and access to services that prevent eastern Peru from taking off.

“At the MEF we are convinced that there is great potential in the Amazon that is still unexplored; a territory where connectivity has much lower levels than the rest of the country and where poverty and basic needs are more acute than in other parts of Peru ”, he specified.

In this sense, Francke Ballvé recalled that today’s world requires increasingly better energy and food production systems with respect for the environment, a situation that makes the Peruvian jungle conducive to its rapid economic growth.

“There is a diversity of resources that if we take advantage of them with the new technologies, trends and needs of the world, such as those oriented to organic products, with processes that conserve the forest and climate change, we have space to achieve sustainable development,” said the minister .

Finally, the head of the MEF thanked the panel of the III Amazon Business Congress and highlighted that one of the objectives of his management is to link the interests of the nation with those of the business sector at all levels, the architect of development in all corners of the country .

“The ideas that have been raised have been very significant and will be of great help to the government to improve, next year, public policies, where one of the essential keys is collaboration between the public and private sectors. That is the definition of public policy that includes the problems of the Amazon and the direct opinion of businessmen who are fighting for the progress of their region on a day-to-day basis, ”he stressed.
