The National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) announced that 45 food products were investigated to identify if they comply with the current standard that establishes limits for trans fats. The result of the analysis showed that 5 of them contain a greater quantity than allowed by law, according to the press release.
In its statement, Indecopi revealed that the products analyzed that would exceed the trans fat limit are the brand’s vanilla, lucuma and tricolor strawberry ice cream. Tottus, like the traditional panettone.
Likewise, the regulator confirms that the marbled bimbolets of the Bimbo brand, the panettone with raisins and candied fruits of the Bell’s brand, and the Cheese Tris of the Frito Lay brand would exceed what is allowed.
The institution stated that the investigation met the requested standards. “The results of these analyzes, rigorously carried out by a laboratory that complies with the rules of contracting with the State, supported the Consumer Protection Commission No. 3 to issue precautionary measures ordering the cessation of marketing, distribution and withdrawal of the market of the five products, in addition to the initiation of administrative sanctioning procedures against their manufacturers and marketers ”, the press release reads.
