Petroperú’s departure from the SNMPE meant savings of more than S/250,000 per year

The state oil company Petróleo del Perú – Petroperú SA clarified that its departure as a member of the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE) occurred in September 2023, and not recently and for not revealing details of its Restructuring Plan. as was disclosed in the last few hours.

In a statement, the oil company explained that its departure from the mining-energy union responded to “a decision made by the company’s management after an evaluation carried out in September 2023 and reported to said union on September 22, 2023.”

“The SNMPE has not requested the company’s Restructuring Plan as its owner has stated. [Víctor Gobitz]. As part of its transparency policy, Petroperú has implemented a section on its institutional portal in which it reports on the progress of the Restructuring Process,” the company reported.

However, it is true that Petroperú’s departure from the SNMPE coincides with the period of financial restructuring implemented by the state company, in compliance with Emergency Decree No. 023-2022, with the objective of “guaranteeing the continuity of its operations and the energy security of the country”.

Company sources reported that, since 2013, the union was paid about S/250,000 annually for its membership. This newspaper learned that there was unrest within Petroperú due to the treatment received during the review of lots I, VI and Z-2B.

“We even invited them to the Refinery [de Talara], but they never responded to us. We ask them to specify their declarations about the lots, and neither do they. They defended themselves by pointing out that they were complying with their statutes. In the end, we paid them more than S/200,000 a year to attack us,” he told a source.

Currently, Petroperú successfully operates lots I, VI and Z-2B, from which it extracts an average of 7,200 barrels per day. In addition, it expects to receive a positive EBITDA of US$540 million at the end of 2024 thanks to the 100% operation of its refinery. The objective is to restructure the company at a corporate and financial level with a view to selling shares in 2025 and converting it into a mixed company.

“We never had problems, on the contrary, we were very active. Before [en la SNMPE] They charged by number of workers, then they changed and started charging by sales. The difference wasn’t too much, but it did increase a little. The departure was Petroperú’s decision, not theirs. They never asked us for anything official, and it is not true that it was because of the Restructuring Plan,” he stated.
