Conflict in Las Bambas: Minem hopes that this weekend agreements will be reached

The minister of Energy and Mines, Eduardo Gonzales, reported that this weekend the roads that remain blocked by community members of Chumbivilcas due to the conflict with the mining company MMG Las Bambas could be released.

“The communities were going to close negotiations, but they had an impasse with the company. We have to dialogue, possibly this weekend the impasses can be closed and the roads free, “he told a local media outlet.

It also indicated that the Las Bambas mine had to momentarily paralyze its operations due to lack of supplies. He expressed his confidence that both parties put their differences aside and affirmed that the Government, as mediator, will guarantee this time that the agreements that are adopted are fulfilled.

“If Saturday is released, they start operating again. They need you to free the roads. We are a new government and we have to start a dialogue with both parties: the communities and the company, ”he reported.

In addition, he said that the mining company considers that the commoners ask too much, and the community members state that they have not received no profit from mine. “The problem is that the state has not done its function of mediating these agreements. (…) As the people’s government, we cannot allow the police to enter by force without dialogue, ”he said.

Finally, González Toro reported that the MMG company has pending the delivery of a proposal schedule for the next five years, but still no response.

“We told MMG to give us a schedule of what they are offering, which they will give for the next 5 years. The company agreed to hand me over and never gave me up. At this moment they are the intransigent, they did not pass schedules, there you can see if they really intend to do things well, “he said.
