Raising the minimum wage does not yet appear on the Government’s agenda for this year. The head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Alex Contreras, reiterated that to increase the minimum vital remuneration (RMV) In Peru, which today stands at S/1,025, the economic context must be favorable; In addition, it is necessary to evaluate how much purchasing power has been lost; with both elements the proposal can be taken to the National Labor Council (CNT).

Although the Minister of Labor and Employment, Daniel Mauratehas admitted that the current amount of the minimum wage is not enough “to give people a decent life.” He also pointed out that, from his perspective, 2024 will be the year in which we can resume the reins of growth, which would be a more favorable scenario to discuss and evaluate the rise in the RMV.
