The National Water Authority (ANA) authorized the disposal, for 2 years, of the reserve of water resources of surface water from the Santa River in favor of the Chavimochic III Project.
Through chief resolution No. 0002-2024-ANA, it is established that the granting of the reserve of water resources of surface water from the Santa River at the Chavimochic intake will reach an annual volume of 664.46 hm3 to meet the population’s water demand. and agricultural of 39,335.00 hectares of the project.
“The Directorate of Quality and Evaluation of Water Resources, with Technical Report No. 0036-2023-ANA-DCERH/CAC, concludes that, from the evaluation of the application file for the water resources reserve of the Santa River, it meets the required requirements by article 207 of the Regulations of the Water Resources Law, and it is appropriate to grant it in favor of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation,” the document states.
The Administrative Authority of Water Huarmey – Chicama, the Local Administration of Agua Santa-Lacramarca-Nepeña and the Local Administration of Agua Chicama, are responsible for supervising compliance with the provisions of this resolution, and must periodically report to the Quality and ANA Water Resources Assessment.
It should be noted that, previously, Law No. 31571 declared of priority national interest and public need the adoption of measures by the Executive Branch that guarantee the completion of the Palo Redondo Damwhich is a component of the Concession Contract for the Design, Construction, Operation and Maintenance of the Major Hydraulic Works of the Chavimochic III Project.
The third stage of this irrigation project includes the Canal Madre from the Moche Valley to the Chicama Valley, including one (1) line of the Virú Siphon and the Palo Redondo Dam. Additionally, the Project has conceived the Tail and Foot of the Dam Hydroelectric Power Plants, which will be integrated into the Cañon del Pato – Huaraz interconnected system.
