The airline Copa, which operates a significant number of frequencies in Guayaquil and Quito, announced on the night of this Saturday, January 6, the impact on flights following Boeing’s recommendation to revise the MAX9 aircraft.

Manufacturer Boeing and the United States Federal Aviation Administration have recommended revisions to this aircraft model.

In view of this, Copa has indicated that it has temporarily grounded 21 MAX9 aircraft, as per the above guideline, until they undergo the necessary technical inspection.

In a statement issued by the agency for Ecuador, it is stated that Copa has initiated the necessary technical inspections and expects to have these aircraft safely and reliably back in service within the next 24 hours.

“The Copa Airlines human team is working to minimize the effects on our passengers, although some delays and cancellations are expected due to this situation beyond the airline’s control,” he noted.

The Panamanian-flagged airline has a link in Panama and part of that fleet flies to destinations in that area.

“Copa Airlines will do its best to provide timely information and support to passengers affected by this situation. We recommend that our passengers check the status of their flight on copa.com or on the mobile application of Copa Airlines”, he pointed out.

The company, which has been operating in the country for 30 years, manages a significant number of frequencies. In 2023, it had 66 weekly frequencies in Ecuador from Quito, Guayaquil and Manta to Panama City.

Guayaquil became a pillar for this growth. Here you have six daily frequencies; in Quito four; and in Manta three times a week.

From October 2022 to October 2023, it transported more than one million passengers in the Ecuadorian market.
