The Chinese company MMG reported on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange about the stoppage of activities in Las Bambas from of this Saturday, December 18, if the blockades of the Southern Mining Corridor persist by local communities.
The corporation’s pronouncement comes almost two weeks after it first announced the possible cessation of its activities for mid-December.
“The company continues to call for the immediate removal of illegal blockades to facilitate a transparent, open and constructive dialogue,” MMG said in a statement.
He pointed out that the dialogue with the Chumbivilcas communities was unsuccessful and a solution was not reached to lift the blockades, which led to the depletion of supplies from the mine.
Along these lines, the miner explained that production as of December 18 is estimated at 290,000 tons of copper in concentrate, and the stockpiles at the site are around 60,770 tons of copper in concentrate.
Government seeks to achieve a minimum agreement
