Inflation in 2023 was leveraged by food, education and hotel services

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported that the 3.24% inflation recorded in 2023 – for the third consecutive year, above the target range – was anticipated by an increase in the prices of the consumer divisions of Restaurants and Hotels (6.46%), Education (6.40%), Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (3.74%).

Other divisions that increased their prices were Miscellaneous Goods and Services (4.26%), Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco and Narcotics (3.61%), Recreation and Culture (3.46%), Clothing and Footwear (2 .90%) and Health (2.42%).

Virtually all sectors showed an increase equivalent to two percentage points. Progress was also seen in Furniture, Household Items and Ordinary Home Conservation (1.91%), Transportation (1.55%) and
Communications (0.09%).

On the contrary, downward prices were shown in the Accommodation, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels division (-1.89%), according to the INEI report.
